Introduction

To my youngest daughter:

When you were born from your mother, and you were still without sight, I was the first to hold you and you wrapped your little hand around my finger.  At that moment, I made an oath and a promise to you that I would do my best to protect you, provide for you, teach you and guide you for the future.  Since that time, a year and a half ago, I have watched you develop, my daughter.  I have watched you grow from an immobile babe as I analyzed your earliest smiles and facial expressions to watching you learn to crawl, learn to use your voice, learn to walk, learn to climb, learn to run (you are fast, indeed) and now each day I watch you as you learn to imitate what you see and learn various environments.  It has been evident to me from the beginning that you are, and will increase to become, a thinker and have been granted the God given ability for figuring complex issues out and the potential for critical thinking (a quality that our American people and their children greatly lack these days).

I write the following letters to you and your sister with reason.  Everything I do in this world is on behalf of your mother, sister and you.  I will never stop in my efforts to provide and protect, nor will I ever cease to stop bettering myself mentally, physically, morally or economically for my contributions to our family.  My hope and expectation is to watch you grow into a young woman one day, my daughter.  If God wills it, I will be able to sit down with you at times throughout your life to answer your questions and talk with you about all aspects of this world and everything in it.  I hope to share the happiness of your accomplishments, offer advice and guidance, share the journey of your experiences, and be granted the opportunity to support you in your times of struggle, defeat and after your wrong decisions.

This brings us to the reason for these letters.  The reason that I am now writing the following collection of letters is because of a sad, but realistic thought that came to my mind while thinking on the future.  No man or woman is ever promised tomorrow, next year, or even ten years from now.  Eventually the sun will rise on a day when I am no longer on this Earth, whether you are 10 years old or 40 years old.  No human being can live forever, but written words can survive throughout generations and history.

How many times have I heard a troubled person ask, “What would my father or mother have said or thought?”

In the following collection of letters, I extend to you, my daughter, my voice and thoughts in written word (captured and frozen in time).  In the following collection of letters that I extend to you, I will discuss my beliefs, my views, the lessons and knowledge that I have learned over my life, and some of my experiences in written words.  These letters will focus on many issues, issues which I consider very important to you, your future family as you grow to adulthood and become a matriarch, and the future society in which you will grow to adulthood and your future family will be born into.  These topics will range from economics to religion, history to politics, and education to social issues, morals to vice, the multiple facets of the human element, and a plethora of other social issues.  These letters are not designed to tell you how to think, how to feel, or what to believe.  The goal of this collection of letters is to provide you with a starting point in the case that I am gone from the Earth and unable to discuss these matters with you as a father should with his children.  My father and his father before him never left guidance or wisdom for their children, and as a result I fell blindly into many social, economic, moral and religious traps.   As I vowed at the moment of your birth, I will not leave you without guidance, my daughter, and not even the mystery of death can prevent my fulfillment of that oath.  Someday I hope that you might do this for your own children.

In closing this opening letter, one of the most important duties of a father is to provide guidance.  Sadly, this is a duty that many of our American people fail to ensure. I do not want you to blindly follow my views, my beliefs, or the information I present and discuss in these letters.  I want you to develop your understanding of the world to best of your abilities, I want you to develop yourself intellectually through facts and knowledge from multiple sources, I expect you to study and give thought to morality, I want you to think critically at the highest level and I want you to give thought to and verify the issues I discuss in the following letters.  Truth can always be verified and indoctrination can only chain those who do not think, learn and search for truth.

My love for you, your sister and your mother is eternal.  In the midst of your greatest struggles or uncertainties, whether alone or surrounded by family, you can and will overcome and advance.

To my eldest daughter:

When our family began, I became your father and made an oath to you (even though I did not say it directly to you) that I would do my best to protect you, provide for you, teach you and guide you for the future.  Neither you nor I have met your blood father at this point in time, but I will tell you (again) that I am proud to be your father and I have considered it a great honor to be your father.  Sometime biological factors mean very little in this world.  For over three years now, I have watched you grow into a promising young lady.  We have worked hard together on education, at times stressful and at times painful, and we have advanced and will continue to advance towards the future.  I already know what you are capable of and, even though you are only 10 years old, we have already had the opportunity to discuss several world issues through education and activities.  When you were 7 years old, our first serious conversation was about the false myth of Santa Clause.

If God wills it, I will be able to sit down with you at times throughout your life to teach and guide you in all aspects of this world and everything in it.  I hope to continue sharing the happiness of your accomplishments, offering advice and guidance, sharing the journey of your development and your advance, and be granted the opportunity to support you in future times of struggle, defeat and after your wrong decisions.

This brings us to the reason for these letters.  The reason that I am now writing the following collection of letters is because of a sad, but realistic thought that came to my mind while thinking on the future.  No man or woman is ever promised tomorrow, next year, or even ten years from now.  This is something you and I have discussed, but your sister is still too young to understand this.  Eventually the sun will rise on a day when I am no longer on this Earth, whether you are 10 years old or 40 years old.  No human being can live forever, but written words can survive throughout generations and history.

As I vowed at the moment that I accepted my responsibilities as your father, I will never leave you without guidance, my daughter, and not even the mystery of death can prevent my fulfillment of that oath.  Someday I hope that you might do this for your own children.

In closing this opening letter, one of the most important duties of a father is to provide guidance.  Sadly, this is a duty that many of our American people fail to ensure. My love for you, your sister and your mother is eternal.  Plan carefully, think before you step and use your strength and wisdom.  Remember that each action causes multiple reaction.
